You say the distance is easy if I can only let it be
But it’s like driving a car into the ocean for me
The water leaks in and it’s too cold to swim
And I don’t know how to be with you this way

I’ve been driving for days, feeling bluer than blue
The highway’s so grey, I can’t get through to you
The sky is white with snow, falling like a prayer
And I don’t know how to be with you this way

I’ve given everything that I know how to give
Poetry and promises about how we will live
But you just throw it away and leave my driving on my own
How can I go on?

It’s been years now I’ve been writing these songs
Used to be honeysuckle, wild roses, nothing could go wrong
But my heart is breaking when I call you from a phone
And I don’t know how to go on alone

You say the distance is easy if I can only let it be
But it’s like driving a car into the ocean for me
The water leaks in and it’s too cold to swim
And I don’t know how to be with you this way

Don’t break me apart
Be careful with me, my heart
